Federal Cabinet Approves One-Year Extension for Karachi Port Board of Trustees

ISLAMABAD: In an extraordinary decision, the Federal Cabinet has granted a one-year extension to the Board of Trustees of Karachi Port following the expiry of its two-year term.

As per sources, Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab  has been included as a member of the Board of Trustees. His inclusion is expected to bring valuable insights and contribute to the effective governance of the port.

While the extension was granted, it is worth noting that the establishment division had raised three objections. However, after seeking prior approval from the Prime Minister, the board’s tenure was extended by one year.

In the course of this decision, Ghiyas Ahmed has been removed from the 11-member board, while Hasan Zubair of the Karachi Chamber has been appointed as a new member.

The Ministry of Maritime Affairs, recognizing the valuable contributions of the existing board members led by Manzoor Nazar, recommended the extension of their tenure for one year. The ministry successfully obtained approval through circulation from the Federal Cabinet, underscoring the government’s support for the continued progress and development of Karachi Port.

According to the established rules, a new board comprising qualified individuals was expected to be formed after the completion of the initial two-year period. However, in this case, the government has decided to extend the current board’s term, acknowledging their achievements and dedication to the port’s advancement.
