Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday acquitted Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz in Avenfield reference case.
IHC announced the verdict on Avenfield reference case, in which the court annulled Maryam Nawaz’s seven-year imprisonment and her husband Capt (retd) Safdar’s one-year imprisonment.
Maryam Nawaz and Capt (retd) Safdar have been acquitted by the court of all charges against them.
An accountability court, just ahead of the 2018 General Elections, slapped Maryam with a fine of £2 million and sentenced her to seven years for abetting a crime and one year for not cooperating — sentences which were due to run concurrently.
Maryam’s husband captain (retd) Muhammad Safdar was handed down two-year rigorous imprisonment.
In August 2019, Maryam was arrested in the case — while she was visiting her father in prison. Later, a local court granted bail in November 2019.
