Islamabad Enforces Mandatory M-Tag Requirement for Vehicles from January

The Islamabad Capital Administration has announced that vehicles without M-Tags will no longer be allowed to enter the federal capital starting January, as authorities move to tighten traffic regulation and improve monitoring at entry points.

Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Memon said the decision has been taken in compliance with directives issued by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, warning that strict action will be initiated against vehicles found without M-Tags after the deadline.

He said the administration has set up 16 M-Tag issuance points across Islamabad to facilitate motorists, adding that public awareness and registration efforts have been underway for several weeks.

According to official figures, around 100,000 vehicles have already been issued M-Tags since November 14, indicating increasing compliance ahead of the enforcement date.

The deputy commissioner explained that electronic tag readers have been installed at key entry points and checkpoints across the city. These readers will automatically identify vehicles without M-Tags, enabling authorities to take action without manual checks.

He added that the tag readers will be activated from January 1, marking the beginning of full enforcement of the M-Tag system in Islamabad.
