Petrol, Diesel Prices Cut Marginally as New Rates Apply Only Until August 31

ISLAMABAD: The government has announced a marginal reduction in petroleum prices, cutting petrol by Rs0.58 per litre and High Speed Diesel by Rs0.17 per litre for a three-day period ending August 31, 2026.

The Petroleum Division said the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority revised the ex-depot prices of petroleum products under the revised petroleum pricing mechanism issued by the federal government.

The ex-depot price of Motor Spirit, or petrol, has been lowered from Rs342.60 to Rs342.02 per litre, resulting in a reduction of Rs0.58 per litre.

The ex-depot price of High Speed Diesel has also been reduced from Rs371.61 to Rs371.44 per litre, providing a relief of Rs0.17 per litre.

The new prices are applicable from August 29 through August 31, 2026. The short validity period means consumers will benefit from the latest reduction for three days only.

Petrol remains one of the most widely used petroleum products for everyday transportation in Pakistan. Motorcycles, private cars, taxis, rickshaws and other light vehicles predominantly rely on petrol, making its price an important factor in household transportation expenses.

HSD is mainly consumed by heavy vehicles and machinery, including trucks, buses, tractors, generators and agricultural equipment. Its price therefore has implications for freight movement, public transport, farming and industrial activities.

The impact of HSD prices extends particularly to the transportation and agriculture sectors. Trucks and buses use diesel extensively for transporting goods and passengers, while farmers depend on diesel-powered tractors, tube wells and other machinery.

The latest cuts, however, provide only marginal relief to consumers. Petrol has declined by 58 paisa per litre, while HSD has fallen by just 17 paisa per litre.

The revised ex-depot prices stand at Rs342.02 per litre for petrol and Rs371.44 per litre for High Speed Diesel and will remain applicable until August 31, 2026.
