ISLAMABAD: Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL) has launched a fresh international procurement exercise for 280,000 cubic metres of LNG, seeking two cargoes for December 2026 and January 2027 to strengthen supplies ahead of the winter season.
According to the tender, each shipment will carry 140,000 cubic metres of LNG, with a permissible variation of plus or minus five per cent. The first cargo is scheduled to arrive between December 14 and 16, while the second is planned for January 9 to 11, 2027.
The state-owned company has invited bids from reputed international suppliers on a Delivered Ex-Ship (DES) basis, with delivery at Port Qasim, Karachi.
International suppliers have until November 6, 2026, at 2:00pm to submit their electronic bids. The bids will be opened at 2:30pm on the same day.
Under tender number PLL/IMP/LNGT80, interested bidders can obtain detailed procurement documents, including technical specifications and contractual requirements, through the government’s E-Pak Acquisition and Disposal System (EPADS) version 2.0.
The company has made registration on the updated electronic procurement platform mandatory for participation and will not accept bids submitted manually.
The procurement exercise assumes significance as Pakistan prepares for higher winter gas consumption, particularly from households in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Increased domestic demand during colder months can place additional pressure on the country’s existing gas supply and distribution system.
The availability of competitively priced imported LNG will also be important for managing the country’s energy requirements while balancing the needs of domestic consumers, power producers and gas-dependent industries.
Any increase in international LNG prices could raise the cost of imported supplies and add to financial pressure on the already stressed energy sector.
However, the proposed procurement remains subject to the competitive bidding process. PLL has not guaranteed the purchase of the two cargoes, which will depend on the prices and offers received from international suppliers.
