Petrol Pump Owners Reject Proposed Daily Fuel Pricing, Warn of Nationwide Protest

The All Pakistan Petroleum Pump Owners Association has rejected the reported proposal to introduce daily petroleum price revisions, warning that the move would disrupt retail fuel businesses and force dealers to launch a nationwide protest if implemented without consultation.

The All Pakistan Petroleum Pump Owners Association (APPPOA) has strongly opposed the reported proposal to replace the existing weekly petroleum pricing mechanism with daily price revisions, describing the plan as impractical and detrimental to the country’s retail fuel sector.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the association expressed serious concern over reports that the government was considering introducing a daily fuel pricing system. It categorically rejected the proposal, saying daily price adjustments were completely unacceptable for petrol pump owners.

The association said even the current weekly pricing mechanism had created significant operational and financial challenges for fuel retailers. It maintained that more frequent price revisions had complicated stock management, disrupted financial planning and exposed petrol pump operators to inventory losses and volatile market conditions.

According to the APPPOA, introducing daily price changes would further increase uncertainty for fuel retailers and make it even more difficult for petrol pump owners to manage inventories and sustain their businesses.

The association also criticised the government for allegedly considering the proposal without consulting key stakeholders, particularly petrol pump owners. It stressed that any major policy affecting the downstream petroleum sector should be formulated only after meaningful consultation with all stakeholders.

Calling for an immediate review of the proposal, the APPPOA urged the government to withdraw the reported plan and instead formulate a practical pricing policy through consensus with petroleum retailers.

The association proposed replacing the existing weekly pricing mechanism with a monthly fuel price adjustment system, arguing that less frequent revisions would provide greater business certainty, improve inventory management and enhance financial stability for petrol pump operators.

The APPPOA warned that if the government’s reported proposal was pursued without addressing the industry’s concerns, it would be compelled to announce its future course of action, including a nationwide protest and other industry-wide measures.

The statement was issued by Nauman Ali Butt, Vice Chairman of the All Pakistan Petroleum Pump Owners Association.
