ISLAMABAD: President Dr. Arif Alvi has written a letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif that in order to avoid contempt of court and other complications, the Election Commission should be assisted for the elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at the appointed time. .
He wrote that on the dissolution of provincial assemblies under Article 105 or 112, elections must be held within 90 days under Article 224 (2). ) was ordered to propose, the Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was also ordered to fix a date for holding general elections as per the time frame for the Provincial Assembly.
Arif Alvi wrote that it seems that the federal and caretaker governments in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have asked the heads of the respective departments to show their inability to provide the necessary support for holding the general elections.
He wrote that under the constitution, the federal and provincial executive authorities have a duty to assist the commissioner and the election commission in performing their duties. In my opinion, the executive authorities and government departments have openly violated the constitution.
The President of the State wrote in the letter that the Election Commission of Pakistan did not follow its announcement of holding general elections in Punjab on April 30, in open violation of the order of the Supreme Court. announced the date of October 8 for holding general elections.
He wrote that it is a matter of concern that the Prime Minister did not have any meaningful consultation with the President under Article 46 and Rules of Business.
