Saudi Arabia Elected to Chair INTOSAI in 2031, Strengthening Global Leadership in Public Auditing

Saudi Arabia has been elected to chair the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI), reinforcing its growing global leadership in public financial auditing and governance.

The announcement came during the 25th INTOSAI General Assembly, held in Sharm El-Sheikh, under the patronage of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

Represented by the General Court of Audit (GCA), the Kingdom will assume the chairmanship for a three-year term beginning in 2031, hosting delegations from more than 195 member countries in Riyadh. The role will allow Saudi Arabia to steer global efforts to strengthen transparency, enhance governance, and improve government performance — all key components of building public trust in national economies.

Dr. Hussam Alangari, President of the GCA, congratulated the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, acknowledging their continuous support and empowerment of the GCA. He said the appointment reflects the Kingdom’s international standing and the world’s trust in its commitment to advancing auditing and accountability standards.

Dr. Alangari highlighted that the GCA’s journey has been marked by significant reforms in institutional independence, technical capacity, and methodological innovation. “Saudi Arabia welcomes the world in 2031,” he said. “We look forward to hosting everyone in Riyadh to shape a global future that promotes transparency, governance, and governmental effectiveness.”

The achievement crowns decades of engagement by the GCA in international auditing bodies. Since joining INTOSAI in 1977, Saudi Arabia has consistently assumed leading roles — serving as Chair of the Arab Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ARABOSAI) for two consecutive terms since 2022, and set to lead the Asian Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI) in 2027.

The GCA has also chaired multiple INTOSAI committees focused on capacity building and the enhancement of Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) in developing countries, reflecting Saudi Arabia’s commitment to promoting global accountability, fiscal transparency, and good governance.

Founded over 70 years ago, INTOSAI is the largest and most influential international organization of public audit institutions, with members from over 195 countries working collectively to strengthen governance and improve the quality of life for citizens worldwide.
