Police on Thursday rescued a 66-year-old German tourist who went missing during a hiking trip in Kaghan Valley after being separated from her group.
The tourist, identified as Karun Anne Malarik, was part of a seven-member group hiking on the Chapra track near Naran when she lost contact with her companions after nightfall in the dense forest.
District Police Officer (DPO) Shafiullah Khan Gandapur told reporters that rescue teams were mobilised immediately after receiving information about the missing woman. “After several hours of hectic efforts, our personnel safely located her in the mountainous terrain and shifted her back to her hotel,” he said.
The group of German tourists, comprising four women and three men, had entered Kaghan Valley via Babusar Top after visiting Gilgit-Baltistan. They were later scheduled to travel to Islamabad before returning to Germany.
Meanwhile, in a separate development, a revenue department team, led by a tehsildar, issued a final warning to Afghan refugees living in Barari Ichrian and Khaki camps to vacate their makeshift houses by October 5 or face forcible expulsion. Refugee elders assured officials that preparations to leave were already underway.
In another incident, police recovered the body of a 25-year-old seminary student, Attaul Haq, from a stream in the Kahotar area. The deceased, who also served as a prayer leader at a local mosque, was found late Wednesday night. Police registered a case under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code and launched an investigation.
