Syria has received the first shipment of Saudi Arabia’s crude oil grant, as a tanker carrying about 650,000 barrels of Saudi crude docked at the port of Banias. The delivery marks the beginning of the Kingdom’s 1.65 million-barrel grant aimed at supporting Syria’s energy infrastructure.
The shipment was dispatched under the directives of the Saudi leadership, reaffirming Riyadh’s commitment to assisting the Syrian Arab Republic. The grant agreement, signed on September 11 between the Saudi Fund for Development and Syria’s Ministry of Energy, outlines a plan to supply crude oil to help stabilize the country’s energy operations.
Supervised by the Saudi Ministry of Energy, the grant is intended to improve refinery performance, enhance operational efficiency, and reinforce financial sustainability. It also aims to support broader economic development, help address economic challenges, and contribute to the growth of critical sectors, aligning with wider efforts to advance the Sustainable Development Goals.
The initiative reflects the Kingdom’s ongoing efforts to support the brotherly Syrian people and stems from the longstanding ties between the two nations.
