ISLAMABAD: The government has cut the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs3.56 per litre and petrol by Rs2.27, bringing their prices to Rs404.97 and Rs389.03, respectively, for September 29.
According to the Petroleum Division, the price of petrol has been reduced from Rs391.30 to Rs389.03 per litre, while HSD has declined from Rs408.53 to Rs404.97 per litre.
The revised prices are applicable for September 29 under the government’s daily petroleum pricing mechanism, with the latest reduction providing relief to motorists as well as diesel-dependent transport and agricultural sectors.
The Petroleum Division issued the revised prices following OGRA’s determination of petroleum product prices.
The latest cut takes petrol below the Rs390-per-litre threshold, while diesel has moved further down from its previous level but remains above Rs400 per litre.
The reduction in HSD prices carries broader economic significance because diesel is a major fuel for freight vehicles, buses, tractors, agricultural machinery and other commercial and industrial operations. A lower diesel price can reduce direct fuel expenditure for these users and potentially ease transportation-related costs.
However, the extent of any relief for consumers will depend on whether lower fuel expenses are reflected in freight, transport and other charges. Fuel prices are one component of overall operating costs, and changes in other expenses can affect the final impact on consumers.
The petrol price reduction, meanwhile, provides direct relief to private motorists and other users of motor spirit, particularly amid elevated fuel prices.
The government is operating petroleum pricing under a daily review mechanism, meaning prices can be reassessed again after the current one-day applicability period in line with the relevant pricing calculations.
