Government allows incumbent CEO GHCL and MD, PPIB to continue work till fresh appointments

ISLAMABAD:

The government has allowed present Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GENCO Holding Company Limited (GHCL) and Managing Director of Private Power and Infrastructure Board (PPIB to continue work as CEO, Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) till appointment of regular head.

According to sources, the government, on the basis of ‘outstanding’ performance, has now allowed present CEO-GHCL, Muhammad Imran to continue work for next 12 months after expiry of three years employment contract. Similarly, the government has mandated Board of Directors, GENCO Holding Company to initiate the fresh recruitment process for the appointment of Chief Executive Officer as per provisions of Companies Act, 2017, Public Sector Companies (Corporate Governance) Rules, 2013 (amended in 2017) and Public Sector Companies (Appointment of Chief Executive) Guidelines, 2015.

Earlier, the Chairman BOD GHCL issued the employment contract to Muhammad Imran on 08.06.2018 effective from 04.01.2018 which ended on January 03, 2021.

And, upon completion of three years of employment, the BOD GHCL in its 49th meeting held on 29th December 2020, reviewed the performance of Muhammad Imran as CEO and resolved unanimously that Muhammad Imran should continue as CEO-GHCL for next 12 months.

“The government has also allowed Muhammad Imran, to compete in the selection process for the post of CEO-GHCL,” said sources.

In another development, the sources said that the government has now given its go ahead to Shah Jahan Mirza, MD, PPIB to continue work as CEO, AEDB in addition to his own duties for a period of two months or till appointment of regular CEO, AEDB, whichever was earlier.

It was also learnt from sources that the post of CEO, AEDB was advertised on 14th Jan, 2021 and scrutiny of the applications had been completed and interviews to the shortlisted candidates would be completed soon.

It is pertinent to mention that federal cabinet had already approved the two proposals regarding the appointment of new heads of GHCL and AEDB which was solicited by the power division.
