ISLAMABAD:
The Power Division has solicited approval of the Cabinet Committee on Energy (CCoE) on the National Electric Policy 2021for its placement before the Council of Common Interests (CCI).
Sources informed newslite.com.pk/ that power division has forwarded a summary titled “National Electric Policy 2021” to CCoE and sought approval for its placement before CCI. And, the next CCoE meeting may take a decision in this regard.
As per details, the draft policy identifies major goals to be achieved and provides overarching policy directives besides providing key guiding principles to develop subservient frameworks that will steer the decision making in the electricity sector to achieve the identified goals. Similarly, following the enactment of National Electric Policy 2021, the National Electricity Plan will be formulated that will enable operationalization of the policy directives.
Sources also informed that the draft of this policy was circulated among the provinces and other stakeholders for their inputs in February 2020. Further, consultation session was organized by the Ministry of Energy (Power Division) on 28th December 2020.
Earlier, federal cabinet’s economic coordination committee (ECC) on 28-01-2021 directed to place the summary before the CCoE for consideration which should also take provinces on board while finalizing this policy.
It is pertinent to mention that after recommendations of CCoE, the National Electric Policy 2021 will be placed (in accordance with Article 153 & 154 of the constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan read with federal legislative part (II) entry (4) electricity for approval of the Council of Common Interests.
