OGDC Strikes 9.7 MMSCFD Gas, 580 BPD Condensate at Dars West-3 in Sindh

ISLAMABAD: Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) on Thursday announced a significant gas and condensate discovery at its Dars West-3 well in Tando Allah Yar, Sindh, with initial testing showing a flow of 9.70 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas and 580 barrels per day (BPD) of condensate.

The Dars West-3 development well was drilled to a total depth of 2,100 metres and successfully tested in the C-Sands of the Lower Goru Formation using OGDC’s in-house technical expertise. During testing, the well flowed at 9.70 MMSCFD of gas along with 580 BPD of condensate at a choke size of 36/64 inches.

The wellhead flowing pressure was recorded at 1,725 psi from the Lower Goru C-Sand reservoir, indicating strong reservoir performance and reinforcing confidence in the hydrocarbon potential of the formation in the Dars West area.

Company officials said the encouraging results further validate the prospectivity of the Lower Goru Formation and strengthen OGDC’s indigenous resource base at a time when Pakistan is striving to reduce reliance on imported energy.

Pipeline laying activities are currently underway to connect the Dars West-3 well to the KPD-TAY processing plant. Upon completion of the tie-in, the produced gas will be processed and injected into the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGCL) network, contributing additional volumes to the national gas supply system.

The Dars West Development and Production Lease (D&PL) Joint Venture comprises OGDC as the operator with a 77.5 percent working interest, while Government Holdings Private Limited (GHPL) holds the remaining 22.5 percent stake.

Industry observers say the discovery is expected to enhance domestic production, support energy security efforts, and partially offset natural decline in mature fields, while reflecting OGDC’s continued focus on aggressive exploration, effective reservoir evaluation, and timely development of indigenous energy resources.
