ISLAMABAD: The federal government has reduced the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel by Rs1.97 per litre, providing a modest relief to consumers, with the revised rates coming into effect from midnight.
According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division, the price of petrol has been reduced by Rs1.97 per litre to Rs297.53 per litre from the previous rate.

Similarly, the price of high-speed diesel has also been lowered by Rs1.97 per litre. Following the reduction, the new price of diesel stands at Rs309.50 per litre.
The revised prices became effective from 12:00 am and will remain applicable until the next fortnightly review, unless revised earlier by the government.
Petrol is the most widely used fuel in Pakistan, particularly by motorcycles, private cars and rickshaws, making any change in its price significant for millions of consumers. High-speed diesel is mainly consumed by the transport sector, agriculture and heavy machinery, meaning changes in its price can influence transportation and logistics costs across the country.
Although the latest reduction offers some relief to inflation-hit consumers, the decrease is relatively modest.
