Petrol Price Hits Rs394.83 as Diesel Falls to Rs395.85 for October 7

ISLAMABAD: Petrol price has risen by Rs1.19 per litre to Rs394.83 for October 7, while high-speed diesel has fallen by Rs1.91 to Rs395.85, leaving both major fuels within Rs5 of Rs400 per litre.

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has revised the ex-depot prices of petroleum products under the government’s daily petroleum pricing mechanism for October 7.

According to the Petroleum Division, the price of petrol has been increased by Rs1.19 per litre, taking it from Rs393.64 to Rs394.83 per litre.

In contrast, the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) has been reduced by Rs1.91 per litre, bringing it down from Rs397.76 to Rs395.85 per litre.

The latest adjustment means petrol consumers will face a higher fuel bill, while diesel users will receive limited relief. Despite the reduction, diesel remains only slightly cheaper than petrol at the new rates.

The increase in petrol price is particularly significant for millions of motorcycle and car users who depend on the fuel for daily commuting. Petrol is also widely used by rickshaws, taxis, ride-hailing vehicles and other light transport.

At the revised rate, 20 litres of petrol will cost Rs7,896.60, while a 100-litre purchase will cost Rs39,483. The latest increase adds Rs23.80 to the cost of 20 litres and Rs119 to the cost of 100 litres compared with the previous rate.

Diesel, meanwhile, is a critical fuel for the country’s transport, agriculture and industrial sectors. Trucks, buses, freight vehicles, tractors, tube wells, generators and heavy machinery extensively depend on HSD.

The Rs1.91-per-litre reduction will lower the fuel bill by Rs19.10 for every 10 litres and by Rs191 for every 100 litres of diesel purchased.

However, the reduction in diesel price may provide only limited immediate relief to consumers because freight charges, agricultural costs and prices of goods are influenced by multiple factors beyond fuel prices.

The Petroleum Division said the latest prices are linked to international market prices of petrol and diesel under the government’s petroleum pricing mechanism.

The adjustment reflects changes in international oil prices, Platts rates, petroleum premiums and other related costs.

The revised prices are applicable for October 7, 2026, under the government’s daily petroleum pricing mechanism.
