Saudi Arabia has been elected to chair the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) in 2031, marking a historic milestone in the Kingdom’s growing influence on the global stage of financial oversight and accountability. The announcement came during the 25th INTOSAI General Assembly, held in Sharm El-Sheikh under the patronage of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

Represented by the General Court of Audit (GCA), Saudi Arabia will assume leadership of INTOSAI for a three-year term beginning in 2031. The chairmanship will bring delegations from more than 195 member countries to Riyadh, positioning the Kingdom as the global hub for public sector auditing and governance reforms.

The appointment recognizes Saudi Arabia’s steady progress in enhancing transparency, strengthening governance systems, and advancing institutional integrity. As chair, the Kingdom is expected to guide international collaboration among supreme audit institutions (SAIs) to promote effective financial management and public accountability worldwide.

GCA President Dr. Hussam Alangari congratulated King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, crediting their leadership for enabling GCA’s institutional growth and international prominence. He said, “This achievement reflects the Kingdom’s global reputation and our collective commitment to building transparent and accountable public institutions. Saudi Arabia looks forward to welcoming the world in Riyadh in 2031 to shape a more effective and transparent global governance framework.”

Dr. Alangari noted that GCA’s progress stems from comprehensive reforms in organizational independence, workforce development, and adoption of innovative auditing methodologies. These advances, he said, have allowed Saudi Arabia to make a tangible impact on public sector efficiency and the overall quality of life for citizens.

Saudi Arabia’s election continues its legacy of active participation in international and regional audit forums. The Kingdom currently chairs the Arab Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ARABOSAI) and will lead the Asian Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI) in 2027.

Over the years, GCA has also spearheaded several INTOSAI initiatives supporting capacity building in developing countries, underlining the Kingdom’s role as a key partner in advancing accountability and financial integrity worldwide.

INTOSAI, established more than seven decades ago, is the world’s largest and most respected organization of audit institutions, representing over 195 countries. It works to promote good governance, financial transparency, and effective public spending through knowledge exchange and peer collaboration among its members.
