Second US Crude Oil Shipment Reaches Pakistan, Strengthening Energy Ties with Washington

Pakistan has received its second shipment of US crude oil, marking another milestone in the growing energy trade between Islamabad and Washington. The US oil tanker MT Albany has entered Pakistan’s maritime boundaries and is scheduled to berth today at the Cnergyico oil terminal in Balochistan.
The vessel carries around one million barrels of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil, making it the second major US oil carrier to dock at a Pakistani port. This follows the arrival of the first US crude oil shipment, MT Pegasus, which reached Pakistan on October 29 after departing from Houston on September 14. The Pegasus vessel anchored at Cnergyico’s Single Point Mooring (SPM) terminal, marking the beginning of direct US crude imports into Pakistan.
Cnergyico, one of Pakistan’s leading energy companies, has imported two shipments—each carrying one million barrels—of WTI crude from the United States. This initiative was launched under a new bilateral trade agreement aimed at strengthening energy cooperation between the two countries.
Earlier in August, it was reported that Cnergyico would import one million barrels of oil from Vitol, marking its first order of US crude. After the successful completion of the first shipment, the company found the transaction commercially viable and subsequently ordered a second cargo in September, reflecting its growing confidence in sourcing oil from the US market.
According to company officials, the success of these shipments has paved the way for sustained imports of US crude in the future, ensuring a more diversified energy supply chain for Pakistan.
Notably, in 2023, Cnergyico had already achieved a similar milestone by importing Pakistan’s first private-sector shipment of Russian crude oil, benefiting from discounted prices offered by Moscow.
The company’s strategic shift from Russian to American crude imports highlights its commitment to diversifying crude sources and strengthening Pakistan’s energy security. Industry experts view this as a major step toward broadening trade relations with the United States while enhancing the country’s position in the global oil market.
