Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan arrived in Islamabad today for a two-day official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties between Turkey and Pakistan.
Upon his arrival at Nur Khan Airbase, President Erdoğan was warmly received by President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, First Lady Aseefa Bhutto, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, and other senior government officials. A 21-gun salute honored the Turkish leader, who was accompanied by a high-level delegation. The Pakistan Air Force escorted President Erdoğan’s aircraft as it entered Pakistani airspace, underscoring the significance of the visit. Children in traditional attire presented bouquets to President Erdoğan and the First Lady, while a military band performed amidst a display of Pakistani and Turkish flags, symbolizing the enduring friendship between the two nations.
During his stay, President Erdoğan and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will co-chair the 7th Session of the Pakistan-Turkey High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council (HLSCC). This session is expected to culminate in the signing of several agreements aimed at enhancing cooperation across various sectors. Additionally, President Erdoğan will hold separate bilateral meetings with both Prime Minister Sharif and President Zardari to discuss matters of mutual interest. The Turkish President is also scheduled to address the Pakistan-Turkey Business and Investment Forum alongside Prime Minister Sharif, bringing together leading investors, companies, and business leaders from both countries to explore opportunities for economic collaboration.
The visit underscores the deep-rooted historical and cultural ties between Pakistan and Turkey. Both nations have consistently supported each other on international platforms and share a commitment to strengthening their multifaceted partnership. The Foreign Office of Pakistan emphasized that President Erdoğan’s visit will further deepen the fraternal relations and expand bilateral cooperation in diverse fields.
In light of recent security concerns, including threats from militant groups, Pakistani authorities have implemented stringent security measures to ensure the safety of the Turkish delegation. The visit comes shortly after the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad issued a travel advisory due to potential threats, leading to heightened security protocols in the capital.
The airbase and the route of President Erdoğan’s motorcade were adorned with Pakistani and Turkish flags, as well as welcoming banners, reflecting the warm hospitality and strong diplomatic ties between the two nations. This visit is anticipated to further solidify the strategic partnership between Pakistan and Turkey, fostering enhanced collaboration in trade, defense, and cultural exchanges.
