Gas supply to CNG, general industries suspended by SNGPL

In order to manage gas loads, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has suspended gas supply to all Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations and general industries of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province.

As per details, SNGPL, in a letter to CNG, general industries dated 17th July 2021, said that in line with the direction of the Ministry of Energy (MoE) and in order to manage gas loads on its system, it has been decided to suspend gas supply to all CNG and general industries till improvement of the situation.

“You are requested cooperate and bear with us during this difficult time,” said SNGPL in its letter to CNG Association, Industries Association Peshawar.

Ghiyas Abdullah Paracha, leader of All Pakistan CNG Association (APCNGA) said that closure of gas was not acceptable and unfair with CNG sector . He said that the CNG sector was already in deep trouble due to policies of the government. He said gas supply to the CNG and general industries have been suspended due to shortage of around 300Million Cubic Feet per Day (MMCFD) of Re-gasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG) while small quantity of furnace oil is available in the country to meet demands of the power sector. The government has now suddenly closed gas supply to the CNG which is the fuel of commoners, said Paracha.

Paracha further said that the government itself has not been arranging the adequate quantity of gas to meet the energy needs nor it is granting permission to the private sector to bring gas to the country.

Sharing reasons behind shortage of gas in the country, Ghiyas Paracha said that LNG has not supplied to the country in time and the step son relation of Energy Minister and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Petroleum& Power with CNG sector.
