Power price hike by 80 paisa per unit is likely as Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has asked the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPEA) to grant approval in this regard on account of monthly fuel charges adjustment (FCA) for the month of June 2021.

As per details, CPPA, on behalf of Ex-WAPDA Distribution Companies (DISCOs), has asked NEPRA to approve 80 paisa/unit raise under the head FCA of June 2021. And, the NEPRA’s hearing is scheduled to be held on 28th July 2021.

The CPPA, in its application, said that power production, during the month of June 2021, with hydel source was 29.40 percent in June 2021, and coal source was 18.03pc, with Re-gasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG) 18.81%, with furnace oil (RFO) 8.18% and 0.43% with diesel source, nuclear 11.27%, wind 3.56% of fuel of the total power generation in the said month of June 2021.

According to document, CPPA has submitted required data and necessary information with NEPRA and asked the authority (NEPRA) to approve an increase of Rs 0.85per kilowhatt hour (kWh) over the reference charges i-e Rs 5.9344/kWh for Ex-WAPDA DISCOs for Financial Year (FY) for the month of June 2021.

NEPRA, in a hearing notice, has invited all the interested/affected parties to raise written/oral objections as permissible under the law at the public hearing.

pursuant to Section 31 (7) of the NEPRA Act (XL of 1997) and mechanism for monthly fuel price adjustment prescribed by the Authority in the tariff determinations of Ex-WAPDA DISCOs, the Authority (NEPRA) may on monthly basis make adjustments in the approved tariff on account of any variations in the fuel charges and policy guidelines as the federal government may issue and notify the tariff so adjusted in the official gazette.
