ISLAMABAD:

Karachitis should get ready to bear a jolt in the form of power price hike by approximately Rs 6.52 per unit on account of monthly fuel charges adjustment (FCA) and quarterly adjustments, it was learnt on Friday.

NEPRA, in a hearing notice, on the matter of request filed by K-Electric (KE) regarding monthly fuel charge adjustments for the period January 2021 to June 2021and quarterly adjustments for the quarter ending March 2021 under Multi Year Tariff (MYT) 2017-2023 has called a hearing on July 28, 2021.

As per details, K-Electric has filed its request for monthly Fuel Charges Adjustments (Own and Power Purchases) for the period from January to June 2021and also asked for quarterly adjustment for the quarter January – March 2021 in tariff on account of variation in Power Purchase Price (PPP) (other than fuel), impact of Transmission & Despatch (T&D) losses on fuel charges variation, as per the mechanism provided in Multi-Year Tariff (MYT) determination.

Under the quarterly adjustment staring from January to March 2021, KE has asked NEPRA to approve Rs 0.366 per kilowhatt hour (kWh) and Rs 1.978/kWh under the head monthly fuel cast adjustment (FCA) of January 2021, Rs 2.495/kWh for February 2021, Rs 1.497/unit for the month of March 2021, Rs 0.869/kWh for April 2021, Rs 0.646/unit for May 2021 and Rs 0.211/unit for June 2021.

As per NEPRA notice, for the hearing certain issues have been framed to be discussed including whether the requested fuel price variations and quarterly variations are justified, whether the K-Electric has followed the merit order while giving dispatch to its power plants as well as power purchases from external sources, whether there is a need to revise the fixed charges currently applicable on different categories of consumers and whether category “J-Special Contracts” should continue keeping in view amendments in NEPRA (Supply of Electric Power) Regulations, 2015 and amended NEPRA Act 2018?

NEPRA, in its hearing notice, has also invited all the interested/affected parties to raise written/oral objections as permissible under the law at the public hearing and placed copies of the Act, Rules, the determinations and K-Electric’s adjustment request on its (NEPRA) website.
