PAC recommends termination of free electricity of officers from grade 16 to 22

ISLAMABAD: The Public Accounts Committee of the Parliament has recommended to the Prime Minister to end the free electricity supply to the officers from grade 16 to 22.
The meeting of the Public Accounts Committee of the Parliament was chaired by Chairman Noor Alam Khan in which the audit objections related to the Ministry of Energy for the year 2021-22 were reviewed.
In the meeting, it was revealed that one billion 48 crores were lapsed out of the grant given for the development expenses of Power Division, on which the committee expressed concern and also expressed dissatisfaction with the response of the authorities.
Chairman Committee Noor Alam Khan said that we had given a warning to end the free electricity units, there was no response to the implementation of the committee’s instructions, how much are the losses of the power division? To this, the Secretary Power Division replied that this year the losses will be up to 590 billion.
Power division officials told the committee that about 9 billion free electricity is given to the officers in a year.
