Pakistan Post withholds Rs 8.7 bln of DISCOs, K-Electric

Despite repeated requests by the power division to the Communication Division and Pakistan Post to clear the outstanding liabilities, however pending liabilities of Rs 8.765 billion still not paid, it was reliably learnt.
According to sources, power distribution companies (DISCOs) including K-Electric (KE) have reported to the power division that the Post Offices have retaining their electricity bills collection since July 2021 and not transferring the collected amount to them, resulting in huge cash short fall. And, in order to resolve the issue, power division has taken up the matter with Communication Division and Pakistan Post. Consequently, Rs 20 billion was released against the outstanding amount of Rs 28.765 billion. Currently, Rs 3.97 billion (till 31-03-2022) of K-Electric is retained by the Pakistan Post, said sources.
According to available documents, despite repeated requests by the power division to Communication Division and Pakistan Post, the outstanding liabilities still stands at Rs 8.765 billion including Rs 3.97 billion of K-Electric.
“Legally Post Office can not retain the collection on behalf of DISCOs, adding, that “Intervention at the Prime Minister’s Office, may help to resolve the issue and stop its recurrence”.
