Petrol, Diesel Prices Raised by Over Rs4, Deepening Burden on Inflation-Weary Pakistanis

The federal government has once again tightened the noose on inflation-hit citizens, announcing a fresh hike in the prices of petroleum products on Tuesday. Petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) have both become costlier by more than Rs4 per litre, sparking concern among households already reeling from surging living costs.

According to a notification from the Ministry of Finance, the price of petrol has risen by Rs4.07 per litre, bringing it to Rs268.68 per litre. Meanwhile, HSD has gone up by Rs4.04 per litre, taking its new rate to Rs276.81 per litre. The revised prices will remain in place until October 15, 2025.

For ordinary consumers, the hike means more strain on already stretched household budgets. Petrol is widely used by motorbike and car owners, while diesel powers buses, trucks, and agricultural machinery. Analysts warn the increase in diesel rates will inevitably push up transport fares and the cost of essential goods, squeezing citizens even further.

“I can barely manage groceries and utility bills, and now petrol is more expensive again,” said one commuter in Islamabad, reflecting widespread frustration as fuel hikes ripple through everyday expenses.

Officials, however, attributed the latest rise to global oil market fluctuations and exchange rate pressures, noting that domestic adjustments are aligned with international pricing trends.
