Saudi Arabia has secured the top position among G20 countries in public safety, with nearly all residents reporting they feel safe walking alone at night, according to the latest data released by the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT).

The Kingdom ranked first among G20 nations based on country-reported data published in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Indicators Database. The findings are reflected in GASTAT’s Safety Index 2025, which showed that 97.7 percent of the Kingdom’s total population feels safe when walking alone at night in their residential neighborhoods.

The achievement underscores Saudi Arabia’s continued progress in strengthening public safety and security while reinforcing its position as one of the world’s safest countries.

According to GASTAT, the results reflect the sustained efforts of government institutions responsible for maintaining law and order across all regions and governorates of the Kingdom.

The authority said the high safety perception is consistent with Saudi Arabia’s broader initiatives aimed at enhancing security, stability and quality of life under the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.

Officials noted that the Kingdom’s comprehensive approach extends beyond public security to include improvements in economic, food, environmental, health, social, political, intellectual, technological and cybersecurity sectors.

These initiatives are designed to create a secure environment for citizens and residents while improving the quality and efficiency of public services.

GASTAT said all of its statistical products are produced using a unified methodology tailored to the nature of each statistical survey. The authority added that its methodology is based on the Statistical Business Process Manual, which aligns with internationally recognized statistical standards and business processes adopted by leading global statistical organizations.

The latest ranking further highlights Saudi Arabia’s progress in achieving sustainable development objectives while strengthening public confidence in the Kingdom’s security environment.
