ISLAMABAD: The government has raised the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs2.29 per litre to Rs402.96, while keeping petrol unchanged at Rs377.91 per litre for October 31 to November 2, increasing fuel expenses for transporters, farmers and businesses.
According to the revised ex-depot prices announced by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), the HSD price has been increased from Rs400.67 to Rs402.96 per litre.
The price of motor spirit (MS), commonly known as petrol, has been maintained at Rs377.91 per litre, offering no relief to motorists despite the absence of an increase.
OGRA announced the revised ex-depot prices under the petroleum products pricing mechanism approved by the federal government. The new rates will remain applicable from October 31 to November 2, 2026.
The latest increase has pushed diesel prices further above Rs400 per litre, adding to the fuel bill of Pakistan’s transport and logistics sector. Heavy vehicles, including trucks and buses, depend primarily on diesel, making its price a significant component of passenger and goods transportation costs.
Higher diesel prices can increase freight charges, raising the cost of transporting food items, agricultural produce, industrial raw materials and other essential commodities. Any increase in transportation expenses can ultimately feed into retail prices, adding to the financial pressure on consumers.
The impact is particularly important for a country where road transport plays a central role in the movement of goods between production centres, wholesale markets and urban consumption centres.
