ISLAMABAD: The government has reduced the price of petrol by Rs3.19 per litre to Rs376.06 but increased high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs2.25 to Rs398.07 per litre for October 28, offering some relief to petrol users while increasing fuel costs for diesel consumers.
The petrol price has been cut from Rs379.25 to Rs376.06 per litre, providing limited relief to motorcyclists and private car owners. However, the benefit to individual households will depend on their fuel consumption and the extent to which they pass on the savings.
In contrast, the increase in diesel prices is likely to put additional pressure on transporters, farmers and businesses that rely on diesel-powered vehicles and machinery. High-speed diesel is widely used in goods transportation, public transport and agricultural operations, making its price a key factor in the cost of moving goods and producing food.
Higher diesel costs can increase freight and operating expenses, potentially adding to the prices of essential commodities if the additional burden is passed on to consumers.
The opposing movements in petrol and diesel prices mean that the latest adjustment offers relief to one group of consumers while increasing costs for others. The overall impact on household budgets will depend on transport fares, commodity prices and individual fuel requirements.
The revised prices are applicable from October 28 under the government’s petroleum pricing mechanism.
