ISLAMABAD:In a move to enhance transparency and fulfill International Monetary Fund (IMF) conditions, Pakistan’s federal cabinet, led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, has approved an amendment to the Civil Servants Act of 1973.
This amendment mandates that government officials from Basic Pay Scale (BPS) 17 to 22 declare their assets, including those held by family members. The asset declarations will encompass both domestic and foreign holdings and are to be filed digitally, with provisions for public accessibility while ensuring data protection and privacy. The government aims to legislate this amendment by February 2025. Additionally, once the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) completes its digitalization process, all taxpayers will be required to disclose details of their foreign investments and properties abroad. This initiative aligns with the government’s broader efforts to promote accountability and aligns with commitments made under the IMF program.
