ISLAMABAD: Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) has signed an agreement with Canada’s Synergetic Oil Tools Inc. to deploy advanced Passive Energy Tool technology in a move aimed at enhancing production from Pakistan’s heavy crude oil fields and improving operational efficiency.
The agreement was signed during a ceremony at OGDC Headquarters in Islamabad, attended by Canadian High Commissioner to Pakistan Ambassador Tarik Ali Khan as the chief guest and OGDC Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Ahmed Hayat Lak. Synergetic Oil Tools Inc. President and CEO Brian Herman participated virtually, while senior representatives from OGDC, the Canadian High Commission and the Canadian company were also present.
Under the agreement, Synergetic will deploy its Passive Energy Tool technology at OGDC’s heavy oil wells to improve flow assurance in highly viscous crude reservoirs. The technology is designed to optimize fluid characteristics, reduce the frequency of workovers, minimize well downtime, lower operating costs and decrease the use of production chemicals, thereby improving overall production performance.
Speaking at the ceremony, OGDC MD/CEO Ahmed Hayat Lak said the partnership underscores the company’s commitment to adopting innovative technologies to address production challenges in heavy oil reservoirs. He said OGDC continues to pursue collaboration with leading global technology providers to enhance production efficiency and maximize hydrocarbon recovery from mature and technically challenging fields.
Lak expressed confidence that the deployment of the new technology would significantly reduce workover requirements and operating costs while increasing production from heavy oil wells.
Canadian High Commissioner Ambassador Tarik Ali Khan said the collaboration reflected the growing partnership between Pakistan and Canada in the energy and critical minerals sectors. He expressed hope that the technology would contribute to strengthening Pakistan’s upstream oil industry and support its efforts to improve domestic hydrocarbon production.
The agreement marks another step in OGDC’s strategy to leverage advanced international technologies to improve operational efficiency, enhance production and promote the sustainable development of Pakistan’s oil and gas sector through global partnerships.
