Karachiites may bear Rs 3.45/unit on account of FPA of February 2022

Power tariff hike by Rs 4.99 per unit on account of monthly Fuel Price Adjustment (FPA) for the month of February 2022 is likely and Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has filed an application in this regard.
Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA), on behalf of power distribution companies (DISCOs), has requested National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to approve Rs 4.99/unit increase in the power tariff under the head FPA of the month of February 2022 for all consumer categories of distribution companies, except for lifeline and K-Electric consumers. NEPRA is scheduled to hear the CPPA plea on March 31.
The CPPA, in its application, informed that 18.22 per cent electricity was produced with water/hydel source, 31.70 per cent from coal,6.51pc with RFO, 11.36% with gas, 15.16% with RLNG, 12.53% with nuclear, 2.04% withy wind, 1.22% with baggasse, 0.72% with solar, 0.42% with import Iran and 0.13% with mixed sources of power production during the month of February 2022. Similarly, total energy generated was 8,087.85 Gigwhatt (GWh) and net delivered to DISCOs was 7,774.13GWh in February 2022.
NEPRA, in a public hearing notice regarding fuel charges adjustment for the month of February 2022 for DISCOs, has invited all the interested parties to raise written as well as oral objections as permissible under the law at the public hearing.
On the other hand, power tariff hike by Rs 3.45/unit is also likely for the consumers of K-Electric under the head FPA of February 2022 and the NEPRA will hold a hearing in this regard on April 4, 2022. And, if NEPRA grants its approval then the Karachiites will bear a burden of approximately Rs 3 billion and 95 crore.
