Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Political Communication, Dr. Shahbaz Gill on Friday (30th July 2021) made this announcement while Finance Division was scheduled to announce the new oil prices on the eve of 31st July, 2021 after consulting the Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Dr. Shahbaz Gill said that price hike in petrol price by Rs 1.71/liter is being made while there will be no change in diesel (HSD) price. He said that OGRA suggestion to raise diesel prices has been rejected since its price hike will affect the common public and farmers as well. He said 47 percent hike has been made in the world while only 11pc raise has been made in Pakistan. Average petrol price in the world is $1.19 per liter dollar while it is only $ 0.72/liter in Pakistan, Dr. Shahbaz Gill.

“The government is collecting zero tax on petroleum products despite the fact that the whole world has been facing inflation due to COVID-19,” said SAPM on Political Communication.

Earlier, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) forwarded its working to the petroleum division regarding future oil prices and proposed to raise the petrol price by Rs 1.71 per liter, Light Diesel Oil (LDO) by Rs 0.24/liter and Kerosene oil by Rs 0.35/liter. The OGRA, in its working paper, also suggested to reduce the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs 2.27/liter for only fifteen days starting from 1st August 2021.
