Advisor at the Royal Court and Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief), Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, launched the “Bathraa” (Seed) Initiative in Riyadh on Wednesday, aimed at empowering small-scale rural producers in developing and crisis-affected countries. The ceremony was attended by Vice Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Eng. Mansour bin Hilal Al-Mushaiti.
In his address, Dr. Al Rabeeah said the Bathraa initiative reflects the Kingdom’s belief that “true development begins by empowering people to uplift themselves.” He added, “It is a promise of sustainability and a testament to the idea that even the smallest seed can yield the greatest gift.”
Al Rabeeah explained that the initiative seeks to transform humanitarian assistance into empowerment, helping vulnerable communities to rebuild their livelihoods and achieve self-reliance. It integrates the expertise of Saudi national institutions — notably the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture — with international, regional, and local partners in humanitarian-need countries to deliver sustainable, impactful results rooted in Saudi values.
He emphasized KSrelief’s commitment to translating Bathraa into tangible projects, including community farming, vocational training, micro-rural financing, technical support programs, and innovative marketing for local products. Dr. Al Rabeeah also urged donors, the private sector, civil society, and social responsibility entities to join the initiative and help scale its global impact.
Speaking at the event, Eng. Al-Mushaiti praised KSrelief as “a global humanitarian legacy and a unique Saudi mark,” highlighting the center’s role in linking relief with development and giving with empowerment. He added that Saudi Arabia has emerged as a global model for sustainable humanitarian work, driven by the Kingdom’s leadership, institutional integration, and trust in national capabilities.
The event concluded with the screening of a documentary showcasing the Bathraa initiative’s vision and impact. The film highlighted its efforts to support farmers, livestock breeders, beekeepers, and fishermen by providing seeds, raw materials, training, and marketing assistance to enhance productivity and income in crisis-hit communities.
