TEHRAN – A Saudi technical team arrived in Tehran on Saturday to discuss the reopening of Saudi Arabia’s diplomatic mission in Iran, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
According to the report, Saudi Arabia will reopen its embassy in Tehran and consulate in Mashhad. This is considered to be the first official visit of a Saudi delegation to Tehran since 2016.
This has been revealed in the implementation of the joint trilateral agreement between Saudi Arabia, Iran and China and the agreement reached by the two sides during the dialogue meeting held between the two foreign ministers on Thursday.
The Saudi technical team headed by Nasir Al-Ghannoum met with the Chief of Protocol of the Iranian Foreign Ministry Ambassador Handoost at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Tehran.
During the meeting, the head of the Saudi team thanked the ambassador for the warm welcome and facilitating the arrival of the team. Henardost expressed his country’s readiness to provide all facilities and support to facilitate the mission of the Saudi team.
According to a joint statement released after the historic meeting between Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and his Iranian counterpart Hussain in Beijing on Thursday, Saudi Arabia and Iran agreed to reopen diplomatic missions in both countries within two months.
Both sides agreed to take necessary steps to open their embassies in Riyadh and Tehran and their consulates in Jeddah and Mashhad.
Technical teams from both sides will continue to coordinate and discuss ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries, including facilitating the resumption of flights, bilateral visits by public and private sector delegations, and the issuance of visas.
