ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has announced an increase in the price of electricity by 46 paisa per unit under the quarterly fuel price adjustment. The decision was made after considering the rising cost of fuel and other factors that affect the generation and distribution of electricity in the country.

According to sources,  NEPRA has stated that this increase in the electricity price will result in an additional burden of more than 15 billion 45 crore rupees on the consumers in the next three months. However, this additional charge will not be applied to K Electric.

This decision has been sent to the federal government for approval. Once approved, the consumers will have to make extra payments on their electricity bills.

It is worth mentioning that the increase in the electricity price has caused concern among the general public, especially at a time when the country is already facing economic challenges. The government has been urged to take necessary measures to ease the burden on the common people.

The decision by NEPRA has been criticized by some quarters who argue that the increase in electricity prices will have a negative impact on the already struggling economy. However, NEPRA maintains that this increase is necessary to maintain the supply of electricity and ensure that the power generation companies can continue to operate efficiently.

The government and relevant authorities are expected to take steps to minimize the impact of this increase on the general public and provide relief to those who may be affected.
