Saudi Arabia is set to host the World Championship in Fire and Rescue Sport in Riyadh from October 26 to November 1, 2025, with the opening ceremony to be sponsored by Minister of Interior Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz on October 28, officials announced.
The international championship, organized by the General Directorate of Civil Defense in cooperation with the International Sport Federation of Firefighters and Rescuers, will take place at Prince Faisal bin Fahd Sports City. The event marks a historic milestone as it coincides with the centenary of the founding of the General Directorate of Civil Defense, symbolizing a century of service, safety, and development.
Director General of the General Directorate of Civil Defense Maj. Gen. Dr. Hamoud bin Sulaiman Al-Faraj praised the patronage of the Interior Minister, noting that the championship underscores Saudi Arabia’s growing global role in hosting major international events. He added that the Kingdom’s continued investment in safety, training, and innovation reflects the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to elevate national capabilities and international partnerships across all sectors, including emergency response and civil protection.
The championship will bring together official delegations from 22 countries, featuring more than 300 participants competing in four main disciplines — the 100-meter hurdles jumping race, 400-meter relay race, tower ladder climbing, and the combat challenge race.
Officials said the event will serve as an international platform to enhance firefighting and rescue expertise, improve operational efficiency, and showcase the latest global technologies in fire safety, disaster response, and civil defense innovation.
The General Directorate of Civil Defense emphasized that the championship not only promotes professional excellence and physical endurance among firefighters and rescuers but also strengthens international cooperation in emergency preparedness and humanitarian response.
The event is expected to attract global attention, highlighting Saudi Arabia’s commitment to organizing world-class sporting and professional events that blend competition with technical advancement and knowledge sharing.
