Govt increases oil & gas prices massively

ISLAMABAD:

Already burdened masses would bear additional burden as the government has announced a massive increase in the prices of petroleum products by upto Rs 8.82 per litre and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) price by Rs 29/kilogram .

As per details, the government has jacked up prices of petrol by Rs 4/litre, high speed diesel (HSD) Rs 2/litre, kerosene oil Rs 7.05/litre and Light Diesel Oil (LDO) by Rs 8.82/litre. And, following the government’s approval, new price of petrol will stand at Rs 127.30/litre, HSD at Rs 122.04/litre, Kerosene oil at Rs 99.31/litre and LDO at Rs 99.51/litre for the next fifteen days.

“Due to the increase in petroleum prices in the international market and exchange rate variations in the last fortnight, OGRA has worked out the higher petroleum prices but Prime Minister has decided against the recommendation and passed on the minimum increase in prices to the consumers,” said Finance Division.

The finance division added that the government has absorbed the higher international pressure of prices through reduction in petroleum levy and sales tax.

‘It is pertinent to mention that petroleum prices in Pakistan are the cheapest in the region,” said finance division.

Meanwhile, the government has jacked up LPG price by Rs 29/kg and issued a notification to this effect under which LPG price has increased to Rs 204/kg from Rs 175/kg.

According to LPG price hike notification, price of a domestic cylinder has increased by Rs 334 and commercial cylinder by Rs 1322.  And, after the LPG price hike notification, domestic cylinder will now be available at Rs 2404 per cylinder and commercial cylinder at Rs 9248/cylinder in the market.
